The champagne bottle used to christen the Frostburg Victory in January of 1945. Supply ships, both the Liberty wessels and the slightly larger Victory ships, were named in honor of towns and organizations which had given outstanding support to the war effort. The Mayor's wife, Mrs. Noah Skidmore, broke the bottle against the hull of the ship. Champange flowed out of it, but the broken glass was held together by the vari-colored ribbon.
