The champagne bottle used to christen the Frostburg Victory
in January of 1945. Supply ships, both the Liberty wessels and
the slightly larger Victory ships, were named in honor of towns
and organizations which had given outstanding support to the
war effort. The Mayor's wife, Mrs. Noah Skidmore, broke the
bottle against the hull of the ship. Champange flowed out of
it, but the broken glass was held together by the vari-colored
ribbon.
